I cannot believe I have lost….temporarily misplaced ANOTHER pair of sunglasses. I’m really glad I didn’t spend a couple hundred dollars on Oakleys or something. I think this makes the 6th pair of sunglasses in about a year and a half time span.

Ridiculous.

That makes about $88 in Wal-Mart sunglasses. The first three were Berkley fishing sunglasses, the fourth was some pair I bought online, the fifth was a pair of Foster Grant Iron Man’s from Wal-Mart, I just bought a similar pair at Wal-Mart today.

I am really not sure how I misplace these things, they are not overly small, but I guess they can just hide well or something.

I know if Derrick reads this, he will probably just shake his head. I really hope I find my old pair and keep a hold of this new pair, I really like them. Pictures of the new shades:

Aside from buying yet another pair of sunglasses, it was a good day out in the Corvette. She is all filled up with 93 octane and prepped for the trip to Kentucky on the 18th.

Well…another thing kind of irked me off a bit…Wal-Mart did not have my body wash. I am very partial to Old Spice products, and I like the Swagger smell and there was no Swagger Body Wash. I smelled all the other Old Spice scents and nothing came close. I settled for some Suave for men stuff. *sigh*

Well until next time folks,

I recently started looking for a tripod and I found the Ravelli APGL13.

Here is my review that I posted on Amazon.com.

I purchased this off of the previous and only review. I was a bit concerned at doing this, but I took a chance.

This is my first tripod and I am very pleased so far. I have a Canon Rebel XSi with a Canon EF-S 55-250mm lens, so I was concerned with sturdiness. I really did not want to spend 100s of dollars on a name brand tripod, because it just was not feasible for me, but again I wanted something that I felt could hold the gear that I have.

With shipping the price was $55 and some change and for the price I think it is very good. It definitely has some weight to it, it is not what you get for $20 at BestBuy or Wal-Mart this appears solid.

The carrying case is nice to have, there is nothing overly appealing about it looks wise, but it does hold the tripod and the 3 grips.

It is roughly 30 inches long and 5 inches wide when it is in store mode. It stands 56 inches tall when all the legs are extended out (note; this is when the legs are locked at their first lock position, you can spread the legs out farther, but this is the setting that is lock position 1). It will extend all the way up to 67 inches. One thing I especially like is the that tabs to extend the legs are metal and not plastic.

Even at full extension and with the gear mentioned above this tripod seem sturdy on solid ground. With that, I probably would not test using it at full extension all the time. I have not had the opportunity to test this out on un-even surfaces, but when I do, I will update this review.

All in all, I am very satisfied with tripod. I think it will do well for what I use and the gear I have, and I would not hesitate to put a bit heavier gear on it either. For $55 and some change shipped to my door, I think it is well bought.

If you are a budget DSLR photographer like myself and cannot shell out $100s of dollars on a tripod, give this one a shot. I would have given it 5 stars, but there were no instructions included (which probably is not a big deal) but would have helped me getting the grips set up and how to move all the pan heads, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

More images on the Amazon page if you go to customer images. Once the rest of my gear gets in, I will do a blog post on that.

Thanks

Heh, I kind of forgot about this place, but it is still here. I guess that is because I have the hosting automatically paid every month on my credit card.

Honestly, there really has not been a lot going on since my February post. I finally finished this semester of school…it was a rough one for sure, definitely not “fridge worthy.” Just have to move on and do better next go around.

As far as the summer goes, I would like to find a job/internship. I may have something lined up, but that may no develop until the end of this month, we will have see.

In the meantime my dad and I have a wonderful mini-vacation planned. Well hopefully it works out as well as I have it planned in my head.

We are heading to Kentucky to do the Bourbon Trail and do the NCM Xperience. We will leave eeeeeeeeeeeearly on the 18th and return sometime after the 22nd.

I’ll have my Canon Rebel XSi with me and I’m sure I will take a ton of pictures.

Speaking of pictures, my interest in photography has taken a huge leap and I just invested another $400 in camera equipment. One aspect I am trying to improve (to no avail currently) is post processing. As I really do not have the money to buy a high dollar program such as Photoshop, I downloaded Gimp. It seems to be a very powerful free program. I am still working my way around the basics, but am software challenged.

I think that will be all for now, I hope to get back my couple regular readers and maybe a few more too.

Until next time,

Do you ever get that feeling that you just cannot go anywhere? Well, right now it is more than just a feeling for me, it is a reality.

Ohio has been pummeled once again with a vicious snow storm, though luckily we never lost any power, we are pretty helpless at this point.

My family and I live out in the country and our house sits off the road. Our driveway is around 550ft in length and makes an “S.” When we get snow the driveway shuts up nice and tight. Usually our Kubota and a blade with handle it and so far this winter we have been able to use it get out. Not this time….for this time we have nice sized drifts.

Let me facilitate my handful of readers with pictures of the mayhem.

I have not been to school all week, hopefully we can get dug out tomorrow in time for me to make my two classes for tomorrow.

*sigh* What is going to be even worse is when this stuff decides to melt…I am all for muddin’ but this is going to be ridiculous.

Well until next time folks.

I received a letter in the mail the other day notifying me that I was one of the students from the Dauch College of Business and Economics nominated for the Emerson Scholarship.

The criteria to be considered for nomination were:

A student with any business major other than Hospitality Management

A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

Demonstrated outstanding leadership in the College, on campus, and in the community

Potential to be a high contributor in the chosen career

A list is circulated to the faculty with those students who meet the GPA and class ranking requirement and they chose 5 students based on the above criteria.

The Dean’s office compiles a list of the nominated students, not to exceed 20.

Then the Dean’s office notifies the chosen students and they are to do three things;

Write a letter of interest

Construct an up to date resume

Include two letters or recommendation

After that the scholarship committee, chaired by the Dean meets and makes their selection. Ten scholars will be selected and awarded $2,800 for their senior year.

In early April the Dean’s office and of the award and asks them to be present the Emerson Scholars Recognition luncheon where they will have a chance to network with Emerson Electric executives.

—————————-

Needless to say I am quite honored to be recognized. To even be considered a faculty member had to recognize my talents and potential talents, and that is just flattering to me.

I need to get started on that Letter of Interest, needless to say I am not quite sure how to write one, but I am sure I will figure it out.

Whether I get it or not, I feel its a great honor.

Until next time,

David H.
